A Marine’s reply to John Kerry

This was sent to me by Wade. It is a great letter. I tried to verify it on snopes.com but it wasn’t on there. At any rate, it is a great response to Senator Kerry’s stupid and condescending remark.

Subject: A Marine Responds back to John Kerry

{This was written by my husband, Aaron, who is currently deployed to Iraq, in defense of a recent comment made by Senator John Kerry. Pass it along, it might inspire someone else to speak up! ~ Michelle}

Yesterday John Kerry said, “You know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well, and if you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

So I wrote him a letter:

I am a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. I am currently on my second tour in Iraq, a tour in which I volunteered for. I speak Arabic and Spanish and I plan to tackle Persian Farsi soon. I have a Bachelors and an Associates Degree and between deployments I am pursuing an M.B.A . In college I was a member of several academic honor societies, including the Golden Key Honor Society. I am not unique among the enlisted troops. Many of my enlisted colleagues include lawyers, teachers, mechanics, engineers, musicians and artists just to name a few. You say that your comments were directed towards the President and not us. If we were stupid Senator Kerry, we might have believed you.

I am not a victim of President Bush. I proudly serve him because he is my Commander and Chief. If it was you who was President, I would serve you just as faithfully. I serve America, Senator Kerry, and I am also providing a service to the good people of Iraq. I have not terrorized them in the middle of the night, raped them or murdered them as you have accused me of before. I am doing my part to help them rebuild. My role is a simple one, but important. You see Senator Kerry, like it or not, we came here and removed a tyrant (who terrorized Iraqis in the middle of the night, and raped them and murdered them). And we have a responsibility to see to it that another one doesn’t take his place. The people of Iraq are recovering from an abusive relationship with a terrible government and it’s going to take some time to help them recover from that. We can’t treat this conflict like a microwave dinner and throw a temper tantrum because we feel like it’s taking too long.

Senator Kerry, you don’t have to agree with this war. You don’t have to say nice things about those of us who choose to make sacrifices for the rights of every American rather than sit back and simply feel entitled to it. But please Senator Kerry, if you’re going to call me a stupid murdering rapist, stick by what you say. Don’t tell me that I misunderstood or that you would never insult a veteran because you’re one too. Having been there and done that does not give you a free pass
to insult me.

My suggestion for you, Senator Kerry, is to remember that your speeches are recorded, and broadcast to us simpletons over here. You may want to write down what you want to say before you say it, maybe have somebody look at it before you say it and tell you what others might hear. Remember that we can’t read your mind, if there are any misinterpretations in what you say, it’s because you didn’t communicate clearly.

Good luck to you Senator Kerry, if nothing else it’s always entertaining to watch you try and climb out of the holes that you constantly dig for yourself.

Sincerely,

Somebody who is watching his daughter grow up in photographs so that you can have the right to say whatever you want about him.

Help us John Kerry!

I received this photo from several people via email. I love it! We have the greatest fighting forces in the world, and they have a sense of humor too!

Maybe there WAS something to Kerry’s comments. What he said was probably correct years ago when he was in the military. Look at him, he certainly wasn’t what you would call our best or brightest and he was “stuck” in Vietnam. Or, did he go to Vietnam in order to further a polical career later?

New Scooter

I have a new addition to the “stable.” I bought a 1993 Honda 750 Nighthawk. The Nighthawk is classified as a “naked” bike, neither a cruiser or a sport bike, but something in between. Basically, it is a classic motorcycle, a do everything pretty well, not particularly specialized type of motorcycle. Some people use them as daily commuters, some a lightweight touring bikes, some as want-to-be sport bikes.

The Nighthawk series traces its roots back to the original CB750 that Honda introduced in 1969. The 750 Honda redefined what a performance motorcycle was with its front disk brake, full loop frame, and its inline 4 cylinder SOHC engine. The 750 Honda was the fastest bike on the street when it came out. The Nighthawk series of motorcycles from Honda were introduced in the early ’80s as a inexpensive starter bike in the heavyweight category. They are designed to be reliable, handle well, have adequate power and be a general all around sort of bike.

93 Nighthawk

I bought the bike from WOW Motorcycles in Marietta. They have quite an inventory of used bikes, all sorts from dirt bikes, to cruisers, to sport bikes and a few of the naked bikes. The Nighthawk is a cherry and apparently spent most of its life in a garage somewhere. It is in excellent shape, a few scratches here and only 3400 miles on it. I spent a few hours with some clear coat cleaner and got most small scratches and boot marks off of it, and some time cleaning the chain. The chain had 13 years of gunked-on grease on it. Some Kerosene and a brush took most of the years of caked on grease off and a fresh lube and it is as good as new. At least all that grease preserved the chain, it is clean and shiny as new under there.

One thing that was bad was two of the exhaust headers were crushed. Looks as if someone hit a curb with them. The bike seemed to run fine with the headers as is, but after I changed them out I realized that it did indeed affect the performance of the bike. The new headers produce much better acceleration!

This is just a fun bike to ride. It handles nicely, not like a sport bike, but also not like a cruiser. You can ride it fast, or ride it around town in traffic, it appears to be happy either way.

I’m sure that some of you thought that I was strictly a Harley guy. I love my Harley, I’ve liked everyone that I ever had. But, to be honest, I’ve owned more Hondas than Harleys. My first real motorcycle was a Honda CB77, a 1966 305 SuperHawk. I bought that bike used and barely running, rebuilt it and rode it for several years before trading it on a Honda 450 DOHC in a box. I rebuilt the 450 and rode it for several years…..well you get the idea! I’m not getting rid of the Harley, it is still my main cruising/touring machine, but I will ride the Nighthawk when its just me out to have a quick scoot and clear the cobwebs!

Bob

Atlanta Politics

The following is a radio ad that ran on local Atlanta radio. The ad was an endorsement of John Eaves, a candidate for the seat as Chairman of the Fulton County Commission (Fulton County encompasses most of Atlanta)

The ad was done by Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin, US Congressman John Lewis (Mr. Lewis marched with Dr. Martin Luther King during the civil rights protests you know….) and Andrew Young, former ambassador to the UN.

This is about the most blatant race baiting I have ever heard. It has caused uproar in the Atlanta area, with a certain part of the demographic, but of course the liberals don’t see what all the fuss is about. Can you image what they would be saying if it was a republican that said this?

“This is Congressman John Lewis.”
“And I’m Mayor Shirley Franklin”
“And I’m Andy Young”

(John Lewis) “On November 7th we face the most dangerous situation we ever have. If you think fighting off dogs and water hoses in the sixties was bad, imagine if we sit idly by and let the right-wing Republicans take control of the Fulton County Commision.”

(Shirley Franklin) “The efforts of Martin and Coretta King, Hosea Williams, Maynard Jackson and many others will be lost. That’s why we must stand up and we must turn out the vote for the Democrats on Election Day.”

(Andy Young) “And especially for John Eaves for Fulton County Commission Chairman. Unless you want them to turn back the clock on equal rights and human rights and economic opportunity for all of us, vote for John Eaves as Fulton County Chairman”

(Lewis) “Your very life may depend on it.”

(John Eaves) “This message paid for by the committee to elect John Eaves.”

I had to do a little searching on the internet to find this audio clip. It was on John Eaves website Tuesday, however, it disappeared from the site sometime on Wednesday. I guess they weren’t all that proud of it, but his other radio ads were on there!

An old family tradition

Like the Hank Williams Jr. song goes, “If I get drunk and sing all night long, I’m just carrying on an old family tradition.” It appears to me that the Democrats opposition to the war on terror is likewise, just carrying on an old family tradition.

I was watching a program on PBS this weekend about the civil war in Georgia that was quite interesting. The description of the battles between General Sherman’ Union forces and General Johnston’ Confederate forces in Georgia were well known to me. There was a new aspect to this campaign of which I was unaware. Lincoln’ chances in the 1864 election were, at the time, regarded as slim. The war had been going on for four years and the Democrats deemed the war as “un-winnable.” Dissatisfied with Lincoln’s moderate approach to the abolition of slavery, a number of antislavery activists left the Republican ranks to nominate Gen. John C. Fremont as a 3rd party candidate to run against Lincoln. Lincoln had a revolt on his hands from within his own party and had to support a constitutional amendment to end slavery to appease his own party.

The Democrats wanted the President to negotiate a peace with the Confederate States and end the war. When he refused the Democrats nominated Gen. George B. McClellan, a former commander of the Union armies who had been removed by Lincoln. The Democrats achieved the best of both worlds: a war hero as presidential candidate along with a peace-at-any-price platform.

This made the Sherman’s campaign in Georgia and Grant’s in Virginia very important to show the nation that the war was winnable. As it turned out, Sherman was able to repeatedly outflank Johnston (you would have thought that after about the 4th or 5th time Johnston would have caught on to that maneuver!) As you know, Sherman was successful and captured Atlanta and went on to Savannah. But, that’ not my point. Listening to the opposition that President Lincoln faced with his war time efforts sounded like a news broadcast of today with the left wing of the Democratic Party and their peace-at-any-price attitude! The same rhetoric is coming from the Democratic left today with the war in Iraq. Peace-at-any-price! We can settle this whole thing if we just open a “dialog” with the Muslim Fascists!

Yeah, Right!
