Government Truisms

GREAT GOVERNMENT TRUE-ISMS

New Scooter

We have another new scooter, but this is a different “Scooter”

Back in July of ’06 Barb adopted a new puppy from Atlanta Pet Rescue, a five year old Dachshund. His original name was Sterling, probably named because of his unusual silver coloring. After watching him run around in the back yard we renamed him Scooter. He is so funny to watch when he runs! And, for a little guy with short legs, he can really move!

BbandScooter

This excellent photo of Scooter and Barb was taken by our friend Janice Ellis. I just love this photograph!

As you can see Scooter is cute as he can be, but he is having a hard time adjusting to domestic life. Scooter has spent his most of his five years as a breeder in a kennel. He is not very sociable and especially doesn’t like men. We had a trainer come in to evaluate him and see if we could speed along his socialization. The trainers theory was that Scooter had been abused by a man somewhere along the line.

Scooter has attached himself to Barb, as most of those male dogs do, they love their “Mamas.” Barb spends a lot of time with him and of course pampers him, so he loves her and sticks very close to her.

We’ll continue to work with him. It can take years for these breeder dogs to socialize. Barb adopted Snuggles the second, a Sheltie, from a breeder and it was years before she became sociable. However, when she did finally catch on she was a sweet dog.

Atlanta Pet Rescue is a all volunteer organization that helps connect people with rescued pets. They are a no kill facility. My daughter Jennifer is a volunteer there one night a week. They do a great job and always have a wide variety of pets for adoption or sponsorship. You can contact them at Atlanta Pet Rescue

USS New York

Here is one that got past me. (like that’s an event!) This was sent to me by my friend in Florida, Dick.

The USS New York is the fifth in a new class of warship, the LPD class, AMPHIBIOUS TRANSPORT DOCK, designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.

This ship is special, it was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite, LA to cast the ship’s bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept. 9, 2003, “those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence” recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. “It was a spiritual moment for everybody there”

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the “hair on my neck stood up.” “It had a big meaning to it for all of us,” he said. “They knocked us down. They can’t keep us down. We’re going to be back.”

New York Gov. George Pataki asked the Navy to commemorate the disaster by reviving the name New York for a ship whose role would include fighting terrorism. That required an exception to Navy policy of assigning state names only to nuclear submarines, as they had been to battleships in earlier era.

Then-Navy Secretary Gordon England, in announcing the decision, said the New York would “project American power to the far corners of the Earth and support the cause of freedom well into the 21st century.” Its motto is “Never Forget,” a slogan among New Yorkers since Sept. 11.

The photograph below is of the USS San Antonio, the namesake of the LPD class surface ships.

More information is available on the original story on the USS New York at the ABC News website. (there was a link here, but it is gone from the ABC site now)

How to become a liberal

1. You have to be against capital punishment, but support abortion on demand.

2. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments create prosperity.

3. You have to believe that guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear weapons technology in the hands of Iran or Chinese and North Korean communists.

4. You have to believe that there was no art before federal funding.

5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by cyclical changes in the earth’s climate and more affected by soccer moms driving SUV’s.

6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial, but being homosexual is natural.

7. You have to believe that the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal funding.

8. You have to believe that the same teacher who can’t teach 4th-graders how to read is somehow qualified to teach those same kids about – sex.

9. You have to believe that hunters don’t care about nature, but PETA activists do.

10. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually doing something to earn it.

11. You have to believe that Mel Gibson spent $25 million of his own money to make “The Passion of the Christ” for financial gain only.

12. You have to believe the NRA is bad because it supports certain parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good because it supports certain parts of the Constitution.

13. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too high.

14. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, Gen. Robert E. Lee, and Thomas Edison.

15. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial quotas and set-asides are not.

16. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn’t worked anywhere it’s been tried is because the right people haven’t been in charge.

17. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag queens and transvestites should be constitutionally protected, and manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.

18. You have to believe that this message is a part of a vast, right-wing conspiracy.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Oops, can’t do that either!
