Some good words from Herbert Hoover

My friend from Florida sent me this brief history of Herbert Hoover. He has some very words for socialism.

Herbert Hoover was born Aug. 10, 1874.

His Quaker mother taught Sunday School and spoke at Friend’s meetings before dying when he was ten. Hoover lived on an Indian Reservation in Oklahoma before moving to Oregon. He worked his way through Stanford University doing laundry, delivering papers and working for the U.S.
Geological Survey. He became a world-renowned engineer.

Trapped in China when the Boxer Rebellion broke out in 1900, Herbert Hoover directed the building of barricades under heavy fire while his wife worked in the hospital. In World War I, at the request of the American Consul, Hoover helped 120,000 Americans stranded in Europe return home. He directed the feeding of Belgium after Kaiser Wilhelm II overran it and orchestrated feeding the Allied nations while avoiding rationing at home. After the war, Herbert Hoover arranged the feeding of millions starving in Central Europe and Russia. He served as Secretary of Commerce for Presidents Harding and Coolidge.

Of President Harding, Hoover wrote in his memoirs (published 1952):
“(Harding) had another side which was not good. His political associates had been men of the type of Albert B. Fall (Teapot Dome Scandal) … Harry Daugherty (bootlegging scandal) … Charles Forbes (embezzled $225,000). … He enjoyed the company of these men (in) weekly White House poker parties … the play lasted most of the night. … It irked me to see it in the White House.”

In 1927, the Mississippi River flooded, leaving 1.5 million people displaced from their homes. Herbert Hoover mobilized state and local authorities, militia, army engineers, the Coast Guard and the American Red Cross, and set up health units which stamped out malaria, pellagra and typhoid, gaining him national appreciation.

In 1929, Herbert Hoover became the 31st U.S. president. In his inaugural, March 4, 1929, President Herbert Hoover entreated:

“Ill-considered remedies for our faults brings only penalties after them. But if we hold the faith of the men in our mighty past who created these ideals, we shall leave them heightened and strengthened for our children. … I ask the help of Almighty God in this service to my country.”

Less than eight months later, the stock market crashed due to domestic and international conditions.

Though implementing a volunteerism plan of aid through the states, political opposition tended to prolong recovery, thereby sabotaging his re-election.

Hoover warned in a speech at Madison Square Garden, New York, Oct. 31, 1932, against his opponent’s collectivist “New Deal” plans of the government taking control of businesses: “To enter upon a series of deep changes … would be to undermine and destroy our American system. … No man who has not occupied my position in Washington can fully realize the constant battle which must be carried on against incompetence, corruption, tyranny of government expanded into business activities. … Free speech does not live many hours after free industry and free commerce die.”

In 1935, the Hoover Dam was dedicated. Later that year, Sept. 17, 1935, Herbert Hoover stated in San Diego, California: “Our Constitution … is based upon certain inalienable freedoms and protections which in no event the government may infringe. … It does not require a lawyer to interpret those provisions. They are as clear as the Ten Commandments. … Behind them is the conception which is the highest development of the Christian faith – the conception of individual freedom with brotherhood.”

Herbert Hoover proposed a solution to the Middle East crisis which was reported in a Scripps-Howard Press interview, Nov. 19, 1945: “My own suggestion is that Iraq might be … the scene of resettlement of the Arabs from Palestine. This would clear Palestine completely for a large Jewish emigration and colonization. A suggestion of transfer of the Arab people of Palestine was made by the British Labor Party in December, 1944.”

His entire life Hoover refused payment for public service.

At a reception for his 80th birthday in West Branch, Iowa, Aug. 10, 1954, Herbert Hoover stated: “I have witnessed on the ground in 20 nations the workings of the philosophy of that anti-Christ, Karl Marx. … I want to say something … not in the tones of Jeremiah but in the spirit of Saint Paul. … Our Founding Fathers did not invent the priceless boon of individual freedom and respect for the dignity of men. That great gift to mankind sprang from the Creator and not from governments. …

“Today the Socialist virus and poison gas generated by Karl Marx and Friedreich Engels have spread into every nation on the earth. … Their dogma is absolute materialism which defies truth and religious faith. …”

Hoover continued: “A nation is strong or weak, it thrives or perishes upon what it believes to be true. If our youth are rightly instructed in the faith of our fathers … then our power will be stronger.”

Hoover concluded: “To this whole gamut of Socialist infections, I say to you … God has blessed us with … heritage. The great documents of that heritage are not from Karl Marx. They are from the Bible, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.

Within them alone can the safeguards of freedom survive.”

In his Memorial Day address at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, 1931, President Herbert Hoover stated: “If, by the grace of God, we stand steadfast in our great traditions through this time of stress, we shall insure that we and our sons and daughters shall see these fruits increased many fold.”

This dummy knows his stuff!

This dummy really knows his stuff about the constitution.  Take a few minutes and listen:

City of Atlanta stockpiling seized guns

I came across this very interesting article in the NRAs Institute for Legislative Action regarding the City of Atlanta.  It seems that rather than being in compliance with state law and auctioning off seized firearms they are stockpiling them.

Here is the article:

The job of America’s brave men and women of law enforcement is to defend the Constitution and uphold the laws of their jurisdictions. It’s a tough job, and those who do it faithfully are to be respected and commended.

But as movie hero Billy Jack famously said, “When policemen break the law, then there isn’t any law ….”

Now, a disturbing report from CBS46 in Atlanta is claiming that city officials, including the police chief, are refusing to comply with a law passed in 2012 that requires public agencies in possession of firearms that are no longer necessary for official use to dispose of those firearms through public auctions.

The report contains video of Atlanta Police Chief George N. Turner opining that compliance with the law would lead to “catastrophic” consequences. According to the report, Atlanta police have some 10,000 confiscated guns that they are warehousing, rather than disposing of as the law requires. The chief very clearly articulates what the law requires of his department and goes on to state, “The City of Atlanta has not done that.”

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed is also depicted in the report acknowledging that he is aware of the law’s requirements and complaining that it’s “very difficult for me to lead on this ….”

Chief Turner reasons that they are not “defying” the legislature but are merely “in a holding pattern.”

But as the report goes on to point out, the law is very clear that “in no event shall such auctions occur less frequently than once every six months during any time in which the political subdivision or state custodial agency has an inventory of saleable firearms.” In over three years, Atlanta has yet to conduct a single auction.

Reporter Ben Swann aptly summarizes the situation as follows: “to say you morally object to the law and you don’t have to follow it… Chief Turner and Mayor Reed would never allow that same reasoning for the rest of us accused of breaking the law.”

The NRA supported Georgia S.B. 350 in 2012 for the simple reason that it treats firearms like any other lawful consumer product that comes into the custody of state officials. Very simply, the law requires that guns forfeited or abandoned to public agencies shall, when no longer necessary for official purposes, but returned to their innocent owners, if applicable, or auctioned to licensed dealers.

Another reporter in the CBS piece alludes to the city having to “dump these guns on the street ….” Under the law, however, that is far from the case.

First, the law states that the firearms have to be auctioned to federally licensed dealers, who are then required to use the same safeguards in their further sale or disposal as they would firearms obtained directly from their manufacturers. Thus, to the degree the Atlanta mayor or police chief have a problem with what the law requires, they have a problem with all lawful firearm commerce.

Furthermore, the law has additional protections to prevent dangerous or unintentional consequences. First, it does not apply if the head of the agency, or a designee of such official, “certifies the firearm is unsafe for use because of wear, damage, age, or modification ….” Also, despite the repeated mention of “illegal guns” in the report, the law does not apply where “any federal or state law prohibits the sale or distribution of such firearm.” In those cases, the agency has several options for disposing of the firearms, including destruction.

Police departments and other public agencies routinely sell forfeited property to the law-abiding public, including firearms. Under the Georgia law, the revenues generated are required first to be used to offset the cost of administering the auctions and then to be transferred to the general fund for further public use. Why anyone would object to raising public revenue through the sale of lawful products (and in the case of firearms, through heavily regulated channels of commerce), rather than expending public money to store or destroy the material, is not clear.

The radical fringe of the gun control movement loves to portray firearm owners as aggrieved insurrectionists, eager to take up arms against any perceived grievance.

Yet here is an apparent case of public administrators using the power and authority of their offices to advance their own preferred public policy, in open disregard of the contrary public policy enacted by the peoples’ elected representatives. When the enforcement authorities think they know better than those who make the laws, the democratic system can quickly fall by the wayside.

Simply put, that flirts dangerously close to anarchy.

We can only hope this unusually penetrating report restores some “law” to the “law and order” apparatus of Atlanta, Georgia. We’ll be following this story closely and providing updates as further developments occur.

Australian Gun Law Update—Here’s a thought to warm some of your hearts.

From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia

Hi Yanks,

I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under. It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.

The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,

Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home.

Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in ‘successfully ridding Australian society of guns….’ You won’t see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information.

The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note Americans, before it’s too late!

Will you be one of the sheep to turn yours in?

WHY? You will need it.

A message from Her Majesty the Queen

Her Majesty, The Queen

Her Majesty, The Queen

As you know, my dear people, the last year for me has been an annus horribilus.  The Royal House of Clinton has been tormented by questions about our handling of finances and subjected to tiresome questions about the tragic events in Benghazi – in the furthest regions of our empire.  And, sadly, also questions about my Royal e-mails.

Nevertheless, I will not be daunted in my desire and commitment to serve you the people.  For the next seventeen months I will be traveling among you as one of you, to listen to your deepest longings and needs.  I will be with you in your Wal-Mart and beside you in your Burger Kings.  I will drive with you down the busy interstate highways of our land sharing your poverty and needs with you.

How well I remember the days when the Duke of Arkansas and I were impoverished.  After we were expelled from our Washington Palace we hardly had two mansions to rub together.  We were so poor we had to remove thousands of dollars of china, flatware, carpets and gifts from the Washington Palace just to survive, only to be forced to return much of the treasures by Washington.  Now, happily, benefactors from around our empire have given just enough for us to scrape by.

During those difficult times we had to cut back when our daughter was married.  We only had three million dollars to spend on her wedding, and I remember our hopes as she moved into her $10 million Manhattan apartment that one day she would be able to move on from that humble abode to something more fitting.  After working for MSNBC for a starting salary of a mere $600,000.00, what could she do.

So as I travel across our land to meet you all, I will be listening and sharing with you.  Then when the time for the royal election comes I know you will crown me as your rightful monarch so that I can continue the King Obama policies, and we can all live happily ever after.

Queen Hilarity Rodham Clinton
