Makes me proud to be from Georgia (updated)

A friend sent me a video of Congressman Hank Johnson of the 4th Congressional District in Georgia. (Suburbs of Atlanta)  Congressman Johnson made an odd comment at a March 25 meeting of the Armed Services Committee, of which Rep. Johnson is a member, the esteemed congressman had an interesting discussion with Admiral Robert Willard, commander of the United States Pacific fleet. Congressman Johnson goes into a diatribe over the size of the island of Guam….well, don’t let me spoil the video…

What?  If you put to many people on Guam it will tip over?  Does he think that an island floats?  Do you think he was kidding?  I didn’t get the impression that he was kidding.  I’ve seen him interviewed many times on local Television and I’ve never  heard him say anything remotely humorous.  He’s not a funny guy.

This guy is an elected official from metro Atlanta, people actually put this guy in office to represent them in Washington.  WOW!  Now, of which political party do you think he is a member?

The real star of this video is the Admiral Willard answering the questions.  I can’t believe that he kept a straight face after the tip over comment!  That’s real diplomacy.  The guy sitting behind him to the left had his head down, I think he was about to crack up!

You just can’t make stuff like this up!

Update 4/2/2010 – Apparently this video clip has gotten a lot of attention.  Congressman Hank Johnson was interviewed (A couple of sound bytes) this morning on the local news.  He said that he was trying to inject some humor into the moment.  He was using a metaphor to describe how he thought that adding 8,000 additional Marines and their families to a small island like Guam could affect the environment.  He said that he thought it was a “hilarious moment.”

See, I told you he’s not a funny guy!
