The one thing……

Of all the “services” that our Federal Government provides for it’s citizens, one that is actually enumerated in the Constitution is the census.  Yes, the Constitution provides for the Federal Government to conduct a census every 10 years.   So every 10 years for over 200 years the government has been counting us.  You would think they have the process down, wouldn’t you?  Think again.

I read article in the local Cherokee County paper this evening that some citizens in my zip code received mis-addressed census forms.  In this area there are three towns right together, Woodstock, Holly Springs, and Canton.   It seems that the Census Bureau addressed some of the forms to people in Woodstock incorrectly putting them in Holly Springs.  Holly Springs doesn’t even have mail delivery.  Any addresses that are Holly Springs would as far as the post office is concerned be either in Woodstock or Canton.  Apparently the Census Bureau didn’t know that.

But the post office ignored the city in the address and delivered the mail from the street address and the zip code.  Great!

In an interview with the local news the director of the local Census Bureau instructed people to go ahead and fill out the forms.  The Census Bureau has a bar code on the form with the address, who knows if it is correct.  However, some people have already returned their forms without filing them out because they were misaddressed.

What a Charley-Foxtrot!  One thing the government is actually supposed to do, they can’t even pull it off without screwing it up!

I don’t think they have a mainframe big enough to sort through all that info. It is going into overload!! Guess they need my son, who knows over 20 computer languages, to fix their problems.

Aren’t you starting out by assuming they actually _want_ an accurate count? That’s a leap of faith.

I mailed mine back, but I have to say I was pretty confused by the whole “what race are you?” thing. Anymore, I pretty much don’t believe there is such a thing as race, and then they had a bunch of stuff listed that seemed more like nationalities than race.
