POTA 400 Parks Award

400 Unique Parks Award

I have been doing a good bit of POTA chasing over the last year or so, all except about 3 contacts on CW.  I had a goal to reach the 400 unique parks award by the end of the year.  Well, I just make it, on December 31st!

Now I want to do more activation’s, that is my goal for 2025!

    Congratulations!

I’ve been chasing the FFMA and while I’ve added around 50 grid squares since last January, I’m still very far from that.

A friend I used to share an office with has become a snowbird in retirement and has started activating POTAs and SOTAs. There’s only one summit in Florida, up in Big Bend area it’s like 300 feet elevation (IIRC for both of those), but there’s a couple of parks fairly close to home. I think he mostly does SOTA activation up near the summer home in NC.

OK, you had me on that one! I had to look up FFMA as I was completely unaware! That is quite a challenge for sure, but if you are going to do it, now might be the time as we seem to be having a pretty good solar season. Good Luck.

My goal for this year, 2025 is to get out and do more activations in parks. My buddy here, David, doesn’t know it yet, but I am going to get him to team up and do some one day multi park activations from the mobile. Some of the guys in our club has done as many as 10 parks a day. Setup a mobile station, drive to the park, pull in the parking lot and park and start operating. I plan to have David do the SSB contacts and I will do the CW contacts. Then move on to the next park.

Also I will do some single park activations from the camper. These will be disguised as camping trips with my special friend Alice!
